About this map

Boyd Tavern and the historic Three Chopt Road corridor anchor this mid-1960s study of the Piedmont landscape where Albemarle, Fluvanna, and Louisa counties converge. The Rivanna River carves a winding path through the center of the sheet, its banks marked by the sites of former industry at Paynes Mill and Union Mills. A significant transformation of the landscape is visible in the emergence of Lake Monticello, shown here as a major new development south of the river.
