Butler Butte and the Grassy Range define the high terrain of this remote area along the boundary between Douglas and Jackson Counties. The landscape is dominated by the protected lands of the Umpqua National Forest and Rogue River National Forest, where a network of forest service trails like Nfst-2925140 Trl and Nfst-2925680 Trl navigate the sharp ridges and deep drainages. Numerous watercourses, including Jackson Creek and Serviceberry Creek, flow through the steep topography, carving out features such as Serviceberry Flat and Black Canyon Creek.
