Byars sits at the northern edge of this landscape, where the McClain and Garvin county line divides a terrain defined by an extensive water management system. Numerous reservoirs, such as Peavine Creek Site 5 Reservoir and Cherokee Sandy Site 6 Reservoir, are distributed across the hillsides to control the flow of Peavine Cr and Keel Sandy Cr. These artificial water bodies, built for flood control and local agriculture, dominate the topography between the small settlements of Boudinot and Civit.
