Rural life in the 1950s is reflected in a dense network of country school districts, including Pleasant Grove Sch, Melrose Sch, and Bland Sch. The map preserves the locations of numerous historic burial grounds and houses of worship, such as Forest Grove Cem and Mt Moriah Ch, which served the scattered farmsteads before the modern consolidation of rural services. The Chicago Burlington and Quincy railroad line tracks along the river plain, passing through the bottomlands near O'Farre Lake and Tully Island.
