The Wyaconda River winds through the hills of northeast Missouri, eventually meeting the Mississippi River at the riverside community of Canton. This mid-century landscape is defined by its deep agricultural roots and educational presence, anchored by Culver-Stockton College overlooking the town. The riverfront is a hub of mid-century infrastructure, featuring the Lock & Dam No 20 and the Canton Ferry connecting Missouri to the Illinois side near the settlement of Meyer.

Rural life in the 1950s is reflected in a dense network of country school districts, including Pleasant Grove Sch, Melrose Sch, and Bland Sch.
