Vandenberg Air Force Base dominates much of this coastal landscape, sprawling across the San Antonio Terrace and Burton Mesa during the late 1950s. The military reservation boundary encloses substantial land previously defined by the historic Todos Santos y San Antonio and Jesus Maria ranchos. While the base represents a modern shift in land use, the Casmalia Oil Field and the Airox Mine near Punta de la Laguna signify the enduring industrial and mineral importance of the area.
