The Rocky Boy Indian Reservation occupies much of this North Central Montana landscape, where the northern reaches of the Bearpaw Mountains rise from the surrounding plains. The topography is defined by a series of prominent summits and buttes, including Centennial Mountain, Forty-nine Butte, and Studhorse Butte. Industrial activity is evident in the northern part of the quadrangle at the Rocky Boy Mine, while various unnamed mines and excavations appear near Coal Mine Coulee.

A complex drainage system of creeks and coulees, such as Big Sandy Creek and Eagle Creek, carves through the terrain, indicating the importance of water management in this high-elevation environment. Several beaver ponds are noted along the upper reaches of Eagle Creek, reflecting the natural riparian systems of the late 1950s. The border between Chouteau and Hill counties bisects the reservation, marking a significant administrative boundary in this remote area.
