1955 Map of Chittenden

About this map

Santa Clara Valley agriculture and transit corridors are documented here in the mid-1950s, centered on the southern outskirts of Gilroy and the historical site of Old Gilroy. The landscape is dominated by the confluence of the Uvas Creek and Llagas Creek, which feed into the Pajaro River as it cuts westward through the Pajaro Gap. This natural gateway between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sargent Hills served as a vital bottleneck for the Southern Pacific railroad and regional roads.
