1956 Map of Cockroach Bay

USGS Topo · Published 1976

About this map

Cockroach Bay and the eastern edge of Tampa Bay define this coastal landscape during the mid-twentieth century. The intricate shoreline is a maze of mangrove islands and tidal passes, including Hallelujah Keys, Paradise Key, and Big Pass Key. Inland, the terrain transitions into wetlands and low-lying scrub where Cockroach Creek and Coon Creek meet the bay. Evidence of the area's ancient history is found at Big Cockroach Mound, a significant archaeological feature overlooking Cockroach Channel.
