The high desert terrain of Jeff Davis County is defined by the steep elevation of Dowman Canyon and the prominent heights of the Y-Six Hills. This 2019 survey captures a landscape dominated by water management in an arid environment, where several vital reservoirs are maintained to capture surface runoff, including Ocotillo Tank in the north and the nearby Old Chalk Hill Tank and New Chalk Hill Tank. To the west, the relatively flat expanse of Lobo Valley transitions toward the mountains, providing a stark contrast to the complex topography of the hills. Modern transportation is represented by the path of Highway 90 and its connection to N Main St, which cuts across the southern portion of the quadrangle near the drainage of Tally Slough. This map provides a look at contemporary land use and water infrastructure in this remote part of the Trans-Pecos region.
