The Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve dominates the northern landscape of this interior Alaskan wilderness, where the high ridges of the Mertie Mountains overlook a complex network of high-altitude drainages. In the southern reach of the quadrangle, the Goodpaster River winds through the valley floor, serving as a primary hydrological feature in an otherwise roadless expanse. The map illustrates the transition from the steep, alpine terrain of the north to the river-carved valleys of the south, defined by the Public Land Survey System boundaries of T3S through T5S. This 2024 survey documents the primitive state of the Southeast Fairbanks area, where natural topography remains the primary landmark for any researcher or explorer navigating the Alaskan bush.
