El Muerto Peak and its surrounding highlands define this high-altitude landscape in the Davis Mountains region. The terrain is deeply incised by a network of drainage features including Yates Canyon, Phillips Canyon, and the appropriately named Devils Canyon. Water sources are sparse but critical in this arid environment, evidenced by the presence of El Muerto Spring and the low-lying Moore Slough and Red Slough to the south.
