The Yakima River snakes southward, flanked by the Northern Pacific railroad and a web of man-made waterways like Tjossem Ditch and Bull Ditch. South of the city, the terrain transitions sharply from the level valley floor into the steep, dissected slopes of Manastash Ridge.
