About this map

The Monocacy River and its numerous tributaries, including Toms Creek and Owens Creek, define the agricultural and industrial landscape of northern Frederick County during the early twentieth century. This area, surveyed by Frank Sutton and J.H. Wheat, shows a densely settled region anchored by the educational institutions of St Josephs Academy and Mount St Marys. The western boundary is dominated by the steep rises of Eagle Mountain and Catoctin Hollow, while the lowlands are interconnected by the Western Maryland Railway and the Washington Frederick Ry.
