1991 Map of Francs Peak

USGS Topo · Published 1995

About this map

Mining operations at the high-elevation site of Kirwin dominate this pocket of the Shoshone National Forest, located along the upper reaches of the Greybull River. The landscape is a network of tunnels and prospects, with the Gold Reef Tunnel situated beneath Francs Peak and a dense cluster of claims including the Anaconda Mine, Mendota Mine, and Oregon Mine concentrated in the Galena Basin. This 1991 revision reflects the area's transition into the Washakie Wilderness, where the infrastructure of the old mining district remains adjacent to the Wind River Indian Reservation boundary.
