About this map

The Continental Divide serves as the literal and figurative spine of this survey, splitting the high country between Fremont and Sublette counties. The landscape is dominated by the massive ice fields of Bull Lake Glacier, Knife Point Glacier, and Harrower Glacier, feeding a complex network of alpine water bodies. On the eastern slopes, Shoshone National Forest contains the Brown Cliffs and the drainage of Bull Lake Creek. To the west, the Bridger Wilderness within the Bridger National Forest protects a rugged expanse of high peaks including Fremont Peak and Jackson Peak. This era of the late 1960s captures the remote backcountry before more modern usage, where movement was defined by pack routes like the Indian Pass Trail and the Pole Creek Trail through the Bald Mountain Basin.
