The turquoise waters of Bear Lake meet the steep limestone slopes of the Cache National Forest in this late-1960s survey of Utah's northern shoreline. Settlements are concentrated along the lakeside highway, where Garden City and Pickelville serve as gateways to the Bear Lake valley. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the flat shoreline, home to Ideal Beach and Lakota, to the high-elevation terrain of the Wasatch Range. Evidence of early infrastructure and resource management is scattered across the mountainsides, including the Powerplant on Swan Creek and the Garden City Cem positioned on the bench overlooking the water.
