Braided river channels and glacial wetlands dominate this subarctic landscape, where the Gakona River winds southward to join the Copper River. The topography is defined by low-lying marshlands interspersed with hundreds of small lakes and ponds, typical of the Copper River Basin. Rising above the damp lowlands is Hogan Hill, a prominent landmark along the western edge.

Modern infrastructure cuts through this wilderness in the form of the Richardson Highway and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which run roughly parallel through the western corridor. The mapping also records several geodetic survey markers, including VABM Home and VABM Shuna, providing precise elevation points for a region where unmarked locations were predetermined by the Bureau of Land Management.
