1968 Map of Handy

USGS Topo · Published 1983

About this map

The Handy settlement and its surrounding backcountry are preserved here as they appeared in the late 1960s, a landscape defined by the deep dissection of the Ozark Plateau. Much of the area is occupied by the Mark Twain National Forest, where the topography is a complex network of dry hollows like Tram Hollow and Stillhouse Hollow. These names, along with landmarks like Spout Spring Cave and Hodo Spring, reflect a history of subsistence and resource extraction in a karst environment.
