About this map

Hartshorne and Haileyville form a nearly continuous urban corridor in this modern survey of Pittsburg County, reflecting the legacy of the Choctaw coal lands. The town layouts are marked by streets named for indigenous nations, including Choctaw Ave, Chickasaw Ave, and Modoc Ave. Beyond the residential centers, the landscape rises toward the high ridges of Blue Mtn, New State Mtn, and the distinctive Belle Starr Mtn. Cultural and genealogical sites are prominent, including Holy Rosary Ch and several burial grounds like Elmwood Cem and the remote Sulphur Cem. Managed water resources at Hartshorne Lake and Dow Lake break the terrain, while the boundary between Pittsburg and Latimer counties cuts through the eastern uplands near Number Ten Mtn.
