The Hatch settlement and the older village of Hillsdale anchor this mid-1960s survey along the upper reaches of the Sevier River. The landscape is defined by the transition from the river valley floor to the high, wooded plateaus of the Dixie National Forest. Transportation and utility infrastructure of the era are clearly marked, including a local Substation and primitive Landing Strips situated just east of the river near Hatch.

Water sources were vital for the high-altitude ranching and farming operations shown here, evidenced by numerous named springs and drainages like Coyote Spring, Limestone Creek, and Mammoth Creek. The topography is etched with deep incisions such as Rock Canyon and Limerock Canyon, while the western edge is dominated by the heights of Hatch Mountain. Evidence of local material extraction is seen in several Borrow Pits clustered near the valley's primary routes.
