House Mountain and Putman Mtn dominate this section of the Texas Hill Country, where the border of Mason and Llano counties follows a north-south line through the drainage basins of Hickory Cr and Marschall Cr. The landscape is defined by elevated ridges and granitic features like Meusebach Mtn and Lovers Rock, which overlook a network of seasonal watercourses such as Cold Spring Cr and Pecan Spring Cr. Local history is anchored by the Putman Cem located near the southern reaches of Bernst Cr. A web of rural roads, including Old Putnam Place Dr and Wasserfall Rd, provides access to the spring-fed valleys that have historically supported ranching and small-scale agriculture in this part of the Llano Uplift.
