The Iditarod River meanders across a low-lying basin in this interior Alaska landscape, defining a complex network of wetlands and oxbows. Located within the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area, the terrain transitions sharply from the level Bonanza Flats in the center of the sheet to the rising slopes of the Kuskokwim Mountains in the northeast. Several drainage systems, including Willow Cr and Bonanza Creek, flow from these highlands toward the main river valley.
