The community of Ira sits at the eastern edge of this Scurry County landscape, where the flat plains of West Texas begin to break toward the canyonlands. The Colorado River carves a winding path through the center of the sheet, joined by several tributaries including Bull Creek and Bluff Cr. The terrain is particularly defined by the drainage systems south of the river, where Cedar Canyon and Willow Cr create a complex topography of draws and ridges.
