About this map

The high-altitude drainage of the North Fork South Platte River dominates this 1950s survey of the Park County high country. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the wooded peaks of the Arapaho National Forest and Pike National Forest down into the northern reaches of South Park. Ranching and homesteading history is visible through named properties such as the Liesburg Homestead, Schattinger Ranch, and the 74 Ranch near the Forest Boundary. Evidence of early transportation and resource management appears in the Old Railroad Grade near Kenosha Pass and the Lininger Ditch. A Historical Monument sits near the pass, marking the entrance to the broad valley where the headwaters of Michigan Creek and Jefferson Creek begin their descent from the Continental Divide.
