The Allegheny River snakes through the heart of this Venango County landscape in a series of dramatic, tight oxbow bends. Along its banks, the industrial legacy of the region is evident through extensive oil field developments and numerous wells scattered across the upland plateaus. The river is a primary corridor for both the Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads, which hug the shorelines and traverse the terrain via the Kennerdell Tunnel.
