About this map

Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness defines this high-elevation landscape along the boundary of Chelan and Okanogan counties. This area is a complex of sharp ridgelines and high-altitude basins, including the notable Merchants Basin and Horsethief Basin. The Chelan Sawtooth Ridge serves as a massive spine through the center of the sheet, connecting prominent summits like Martin Peak and North Navarre Peak. Historically, the movement through these mountains is marked by high passes such as Hoodoo Pass and Horsehead Pass, which provided critical access points between the drainage systems of Buttermilk Creek and the Prince Creek fork. A network of alpine lakes, from Libby Lake in the north to Cooney Lake further south, illustrates the glaciated character of the terrain. The presence of Foggy Dew Falls and multiple forks of Gold Creek highlights the intricate hydrology of the eastern Cascades at the start of the 21st century.
