The Warm Springs Indian Reservation Boundary defines the southern half of this landscape, showing the convergence of historical survey lines like the Campbell Line against the deep canyon of the Deschutes River. The transition from the agricultural plateaus of Juniper Flat in the north to the rising elevations of the Mutton Mountains illustrates the varied terrain of Wasco County. Remote access in the early 1960s was facilitated by a simple Landing Strip and a network of Jeep Trails carving through Natural Pasture lands.

Industrial and transport corridors follow the river's edge, where the Oregon Trunk and Spokane Portland and Seattle railroads flank the water. Water resources are marked by numerous Springs and the drainage of Wapinitia Creek, which cuts through the volcanic geology of the region. A small Gravel Pit near the creek suggests local material extraction used for maintaining the area's light-duty roads.
