The Misheguk Mountain region of the North Slope Borough appears here as a complex network of high peaks and river headwaters in the mid-1950s. The landscape is defined by the continental divide between the Utukok River flowing north and the Kugururok River drainage to the south. Human activity is sparse but notable through a series of Winter Trails that provided essential overland access across the Brooks Range before the advent of modern infrastructure.
