Allegheny River transport and coal extraction define this part of Armstrong County during the late 1960s. The village of Mosgrove serves as a focal point along the Conrail line, adjacent to the Mosgrove Campgrounds. Further inland, the landscape is a network of deep creek valleys including Cowanshannock Creek and Pine Creek, interspersed with numerous strip mines and gas wells that speak to the area's industrial character.
