Doncaster State Forest dominates the northwest corner of this coastal landscape, where the northern neck of Charles County meets the wide waters of the Potomac River. The 1954 topography, updated with late 1970s land-use data and 1982 bathymetry, illustrates a rural society centered around crossroad settlements and waterfront access. Historic congregations are well represented, including St Ignatius Ch near the northern border and Durham Ch further south.

Along the winding banks of Nanjemoy Creek, the map details a complex shoreline of coves and guts, such as Barn Cove and Thorne Gut.
