Paradise Valley spreads across the southern portion of this map, framed by the rocky rise of the Union Hills. Surveyed in the 1960s with 1980s updates, the landscape is defined by an intricate network of desert washes including Skunk Creek, Deadman Wash, and Apache Wash. Water management for ranching or land use is evident through numerous named tanks such as Bronco Tank, Circle Tank, and Desert Lake Tank, which are scattered along the alluvial fans. To the south, the Cave Buttes Recreation Area and the Gaging Sta on Cave Creek show the early stages of regional water control and land preservation before major suburban expansion. The northern terrain is dominated by high points like Apache Peak and the unique Gunsight formation, accessible by rugged jeep trails and the primary New River Road.
