The Angelina River meanders through the eastern portion of this East Texas landscape, defining a terrain of numerous named springs and bayous. In the early 21st century, the community of New Salem remains a central point of interest, flanked by natural landmarks such as Quinn Mountain and a series of water features including Washburn Spring and Pearson Spring. The western edge is dominated by Lake Striker, where the Lake Striker Dam regulates the local hydrology near the settlement of Reklaw.
