The Yukon River dominates the western edge of this 1953 landscape, weaving around Sevenmile Island and Halfway Island in a complex system of side channels and bars. The interior is a vast network of water and marsh, characterized by the winding Khotol River and a dense collection of interconnected waterways including Tlatskokat Slough and the ominously named Manslaughter Slough.

Signs of human activity are sparse but strategically placed, such as the Portage located between the Yukon River and the Khotol system, and scattered Cabins along the riverbank. To the south, the terrain rises into the Magitchlie Range, providing a sharp vertical contrast to the low-lying wetlands and lakes like Fall Camp Lake and Skinny Fish Lake that define the central basin. A Telegraph Line cuts across the northern reaches, marking one of the few pieces of infrastructure in this wilderness during the early fifties.
