About this map

The Newhall Potrero Oil Field dominates the northern slopes of the Santa Susana Mountains, where numerous oil wells and a Historic Refinery mark the industrial activity north of the San Fernando Tunnel. To the south, the grid of the San Fernando Valley begins to press against the foothills, showing the post-war suburban expansion into Chatsworth and Granada Hills. Distinctive residential developments and landmarks like Deer Lake Highlands, Twin Lakes, and the Garden of the Gods sit at the edge of the mountains, while the Golden State Freeway carves through the canyon passes.
