The river's turbulent character is well-documented by several named hazards, including Bay Horse Rapids, Shoofly Rapids, and Whisky Rapids. Following the western bank, the Union Pacific railroad corridor threads through the narrow valley floor, connecting small outposts like Prevost and the industrial remnants at Gypsum (Site).
