Superior National Forest defines the landscape of this northern Saint Louis County region, where an intricate network of waterways and timber management routes crisscross the terrain. The topography is dominated by significant bodies of water including Black Duck Lake and Elephant Lake, the latter of which is accessed via Melgeorge Resort Rd and N Elephant Lake Rd. The drainage pattern is complex, with the Pelican River, Black Duck River, and Lost River moving through a mosaic of wetlands and bogs, such as Bog Lake and S Bog Lake in the southeast.
