Thunder Basin National Grassland dominates the eastern high plains of Converse County in this recent survey. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems, where the Dry Fork Cheyenne River and Cottonwood Draw cut through the northwest corner. This area of Wyoming is characterized by its ranching infrastructure, evidenced by multiple small water storage sites such as Madsen Reservoir, Ballard Reservoir, and Anderson Reservoir. The map shows a transition from the larger basins in the north to more complex drainage networks in the south near Skunk Cr and Dry Cr Number 1 Reservoir. These features illustrate the vital role of water management in sustaining the local environment and its land use within the national grassland boundary.
