About this map

Crown Pt. Fort Ruins and the French Fort Ruins anchor the southern narrows of Lake Champlain in this late 19th-century survey. The landscape is defined by the maritime commerce of the Champlain Transportation Co. Steamer Route, which linked major landings at Westport and Port Henry. While the New York side is characterized by steep slopes rising to Bald Knob and Coob Mt., the Vermont shoreline in Addison and Ferrisburg consists of broader agricultural lowlands drained by Otter Creek and Dead Creek.
