About this map

The Quinebaug River and Five Mile River corridors define the industrial and residential development of northeastern Connecticut in the late 19th century. Along these waterways, a string of mill villages and manufacturing centers like Danielson, Grosvenor Dale, and Putnam thrive, supported by the critical infrastructure of the Norwich and Worcester Railroad. To the east, the landscape transitions into the hills of Rhode Island, including Jerimoth Hill, where the terrain is marked by smaller settlements and extensive water management systems like the Quaddick Reservoir and Bowdish Reservoir.
