The energy economy of eastern Montana is clearly visible in the landscape of this 2014 survey. Two significant petroleum operations, the Cupton Oil Field and the Monarch Oil Field, are prominent features in the southern half of the quadrangle. The terrain is defined by a dendritic network of drainage systems, including the Middle Fork Cabin Cr and Wills Cr, which feed toward the Rush Hall Reservoir in the northeast corner. This map documents a sparsely populated region of Fallon County where land use is split between resource extraction and rugged transit. Historic access routes like Cap Rock Rd and Cabin Creek Rd crisscross the township lines, while the Battleship Butte Trl provides a more primitive path through the draws and plateaus.
