The Gannett Hills dominate this section of the Bridger National Forest, where high-altitude ridges give way to a network of steep drainages. Significant historical routes traverse the terrain, most notably the Emigrant Trail (Trail Cutoff) winding through the northeastern corner and several pack trails such as the Packstring Trail and Pack Trail that suggest a landscape managed for wilderness transit and grazing.
