The Bigfoot Oil Field and the West Bigfoot Gas Field define the industrial character of this South Texas landscape in the late 1960s. Numerous Oil Wells, a Pumping Sta, and a network of pipelines illustrate the intense resource extraction occurring in Frio County. The terrain is marked by a complex drainage system where San Miguel Creek meets several tributaries, including Black Horse Creek and Elm Creek.

A glimpse of local ranching history is preserved at Rancho Pobre, situated near the confluence of Buckhorn Creek and the San Miguel. This survey, updated with photo-revisions in the early 1980s, captures the intersection of traditional land use and the mid-century energy boom, evidenced by the many Gravel Pits and industrial sites carved into the brush country around Mustang Hollow and Sand Hollow.
