Nanwalek sits at the northern edge of this coastal survey, serving as a primary settlement on the southwestern tip of the Kenai Peninsula. This area is defined by its maritime geography, where the English Bay River meets English Bay just south of Russian Point. The terrain rises steeply from the shoreline toward the summit of Mt Bede, creating a landscape where transportation and habitation are concentrated along the narrow coastal strip.
