Dredge Tailings in the northern reaches of this territory indicate an era of active mineral extraction, particularly near the confluence of Cache Creek and Wilson Creek. The landscape is dominated by the Peters Hills and Little Peters Creek, where the terrain transitions into a complex network of wetlands and small water bodies. Notable among these are the curiously named Lake Lake and Twentyfive Mile Lake.

Surface transportation in the mid-1950s was limited to a rugged Tractor Trail that cuts across the central drainage of Black Creek and Sand Creek. This network of glacial runoff, including Kroto Creek and Seventeenmile Creek, eventually feeds the southward-flowing Kahlitna River. The distribution of seasonal drainages like Hungryman Creek and Pickle Creek provides a clear view of the hydrological patterns before significant modern development altered the Matanuska-Susitna region.
