Tatanka Lake and the surrounding high plains of the Porcupine District are captured here in a 2012 survey of the borderlands between North and South Dakota. The landscape is defined by the headwaters of seasonal drainages, most notably Iron Dog Cr and Leaf on the Hill Cr, which carve subtle paths through the prairie. To the north, the prominent elevation of Leaf-On Hill provides a distinct landmark in an otherwise wide-open topography. This edition shows the rural section line grid that organizes the region, including 245 Ave and 104th St. The map reflects a modern moment in the Great Plains, where long-established tribal lands and cattle country intersect with a strictly maintained network of county roads and water management features.
