About this map

Bering Land Bridge National Preserve occupies much of this landscape on the Seward Peninsula, where the complex hydrology of the Arctic coastal plain is on full display. The Pinguk River meanders extensively through the center of the sheet, creating a dense network of oxbows and marshy lowlands before reaching the northern coast. Along the northern edge, Ikpek Lagoon forms a significant coastal feature, separated from the open water by narrow barrier elements. Human presence in this isolated terrain is limited to the New Nuluk River Road in the northeast corner and the small drainage of York Cr in the south. The map provides a detailed view of the shifting watercourses and tundra lakes that characterize this protected wilderness area near the western edge of Alaska.
