Trinchera Peak anchors the high ridgeline of the Sangre De Cristo range, serving as a triple-county point where Costilla, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties converge. This 1967 field-checked survey reveals a landscape defined by sharp elevation shifts and high-altitude water sources, including Bear Lake, Blue Lakes, and Wolf Lake. To the east, the San Isabel National Forest provides established recreation at Bear Lake Campground and Blue Lakes Campground, while the southern slopes descend into the drainage of the Purgatoire River.

The western portion of the quadrangle is largely occupied by the Sangre De Cristo Grant Boundary, showing a transition from steep summits like Teddys Peak and Napoleon Peak into deep-cut drainages such as Apache Canyon and Banana Canyon. Subtle evidence of high-country industry appears near the peaks, where a marked Mine and various Prospects suggest historical mineral exploration amidst the network of Jeep Trails and the Indian Creek Trail.
