About this map

The Neacola Mountains dominate this region of the Kenai Peninsula, where high alpine glaciers feed complex glacial river systems. The northern portion of the map is defined by the Chakachatna River as it flows east from the shadow of the Kidazgeni Glacier. To the south, the massive Blockade Glacier provides the source for the braided channels of the McArthur River, which winds through broad marshy lowlands toward the coast. Survey markers like VABM 2351 McArthur and VABM 3213 Chaka indicate the high-altitude triangulation points used by the Geological Survey during the mid-century mapping effort. The landscape illustrates the raw transition from high-altitude ice fields to the swampy, tide-influenced flats near the Kustatan R, showing an Alaskan wilderness before significant modern infrastructure reached these remote drainage basins.
