The Bering Land Bridge National Preserve dominates the northern reaches of this Alaskan interior landscape, where the wide, meandering channel of the Kuzitrin River cuts through an expanse of wetlands and low-relief tundra. To the south, the terrain rises sharply into the Bendeleben Mountains, a stark contrast to the water-saturated lowlands fed by the Noxapaga River and Bonanza Creek.

Evidence of remote overland transit is found in the northern corner, where a Tractor Trail skirts the headwaters of Mabel Creek and Mascot Creek. This 1950 photogrammetric study, updated with 1980s boundary revisions, captures a region largely untouched by permanent settlement, defined instead by the complex hydrological network of Birch Creek, Belt Creek, and Ella Creek. The map provides a precise record of the unsurveyed land lines and the original Base Line that established the grid for this portion of the Seward Peninsula.
